Eva Mendes Won't Be Celebrating Her First Mother's Day: Find Out Why!

Publish date: 2024-05-20

No breakfast in bed!? Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling may have a new bundle of joy at home, but the actress says she won't be making a big fuss of her first Mother's Day this year.

"There is no plan. I kind of feel like I haven't quite earned my stripes yet in a way," Mendes told Access Hollywood's Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Tuesday, May 5. "[My daughter is] 7 months."

Us broke news in September 2014 that Mendes, 41, and Gosling, 34, welcomed their first child together, Esmeralda. The Lost River actress joked Tuesday that she wasn't sure if she was pregnant during her last Access Hollywood visit, but definitely knew when she was about to give birth!

She teased: "I knew when I was in labor. I was like, 'Something is going on!'"

Gosling probably has a surprise up his sleeve, but even if the fashion designer doesn't get any presents of her own this year, she does plan to shower her own mom with love.

"This Mother's Day is definitely all about my mom. She's had a really hard year. My brother's sick, so it's all about my mom, honoring her," the star said, without giving further details of Carlos' condition. "We're all going to go over to her house and bombard her with love."

As for what Esmeralda will wear to grandma's? Mendes didn't specify, but she did say she loves the concept of moms dressing like their daughters. "It's so sweet to me. My mother was always one of those mothers that dressed me like my sisters. Like exactly alike — and there's a huge age gap!" she said, slightly changing the subject. "My poor sisters were 8 and 9 years older than me and dressing like a 5-year-old."
