Miuccia Prada Was "Terrified" of "Awful" Devil Wears Prada

No desire to dress the devil! Fashion designer Miuccia Prada gave her two cents on the popular 2003 book The Devil Wears Prada and its big-screen adaptation in a new interview with Italian publication Corriere della Sera this week.

Prada, 65, was fully aware of author Lauren Weisberger's fashion tale and the inclusion of her brand's name in the title. She was hardly a fan of the book, and was even more wary of the 2006 movie, which starred Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and, Stanley Tucci, among others.

"I was terrified: the book was awful," she told Corriere della Sera about the production of a movie adaptation. "The film, on the other hand, was fun."

Prada was hardly alone in her favorable view of the fashion flick. The Devil Wears Prada brought in more than $326.5 million at the international box office and impressed even Anna Wintour, the movie's inspiration for Streep's character of fashion editor Miranda Priestly.

"Anything that makes fashion entertaining and glamorous and interesting is wonderful for our industry," she told Barbara Walters of the movie in 2006. "So I was 100 percent behind it." 

Wintour added of Streep's portrayal of her character, "I think it's actually helpful to people that you are working with, that you can make decisions. So, if Meryl seemed somewhat strong, I respect that."
