Paula Patton Talks Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, Twerks on Al Roker

Twerking is totally acceptable in Paula Patton and Robin Thicke‘s marriage! While making the promotional rounds for her romantic comedy Baggage Claim, the 37-year-old actress has inevitably had to share her thoughts on husband Thicke’s controversial “We Can’t Stop” and “Blurred Lines” performance with Miley Cyrus at the MTV VMAs last month.

On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Patton appeared on Watch What Happens Live and answered a viewer’s question, asking, “How long did it take to wash Miley’s funk off your husband’s Beetlejuice pants?”

“First of all, his outfit was fly,” she said of the black-and-white striped suit Thicke, 36, wore on stage. “Secondly, he was wearing pants so there was nothing to wash off. It wasn’t a naked show!”

“I wasn’t surprised at all,” she added about her husband’s collaboration with the 20-year-old singer. “Honestly, they rehearsed for three days beforehand, and I don’t know how not to dance with someone having their booty in your . . . all my friends do it like that. And I don’t really know what the big deal is.”

What did surprise Patton was how negatively fans reacted to the performance. “I didn’t know if they thought Miley was going to sit down and play piano like Alicia Keys. Her song’s about taking molly!” she said. (Cyrus has denied that she references the slang term for Ecstasy in her song. “You’re not allowed to say Molly on the radio, so it obviously says Miley,” she told MTV News in June.)

During an appearance the following morning on the TODAY show, Patton reiterated her opinion. “I don’t know if you guys have been to a club lately, but that’s how girls dance at the club,” she said. “My friends dance with [Robin] like that. It’s just what they do.”

To prove her point, Patton, wearing a sexy leopard-print dress, got up and twerked on weather anchor Al Roker! “Your wife’s [Deborah Roberts] not going to get mad at you is she?” she jokingly asked Roker.

When asked what’s the secret to Patton’s happy eight-year marriage with Thicke? Patton said “love” and not being too uptight. “I want him to express himself however he feels, and he lets me do the same,” Patton explained.
